Pre-Operative Instructions: Hair Transplant Surgery

  1. As you take the first step towards a younger looking you, it is important that you diligently follow the instructions so that your experience is comfortable and memorable too.

One to two weeks prior to surgery:

  1. Please avoid aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs or any combination medications (Advil, Motrin, Maproxen, Ibuprofen) that thin the blood and could increase the risk of intra-operative and post-operative bleeding. Kindly let us know if you are on Vitamin E, Flavix, Coumadin or MAO inhibitor anti-depressant drugs as the hair transplant surgery cannot be done while on these drugs.   Please don’t use Viagra or any performance enhancement drug 48 hours before your surgery.  The only anti-inflammatory drug that can be used during this time is Acetaminophen (Tylenol).
  2. The presence of alcohol or nicotine in your body can hamper the surgery, the recovery and hair growth. Kindly stop consumption of alcohol at least 72 hours before the surgery.   Tobacco consumption must be stopped 14 days before the surgery and must not be consumed for at least 4 months post the surgery.  Please inform the doctor if you have consumed any of these so that the medical team is prepared for any emergency.
  3. Avoid doing strenuous workouts at the gym at least 3 days before the surgery as it may lead to excess bleeding. Also avoid saunas a day before or on the morning of the surgery as it may dehydrate you.
  4. Keep your hair at least an inch long if you are undergoing a surgery as it will help cover the donor area post the surgery.

One day prior to surgery:

The medications mentioned below should be taken after dinner on the night before surgery and on the morning of surgery after breakfast. If you’ve a history of an adverse impact to any of the medications do let us know. : Tab Monocef O (200mg), Tab Valium (5mg), Tab Pan D

  1. Shampoo your hair the night before and on the morning of surgery, using shampoo which has Ketoconazole. Do not spray, oil, gel your hair on the day of the surgery. Please inform the doctor if you have any skin infection or condition like severe seborrhea, psoriasis.
  2. Dress comfortably. Wear a button-up shirt.  Don’t wear a t-shirt that needs to be pulled over the head.
  3. Please eat a solid meal before your surgery to avoid nausea and vomiting.
  4. Kindly ensure that you are accompanied by an attendant (relative / friend) on the day of surgery. You and your attendant will be given a resting room for a few hours.
  5. Please ensure that you have made the necessary payments, submitted the documents and reconfirmed your surgery booking. In case you don’t follow the above the clinic has the right to allot your slot to another patient.

A successful surgery requires a perfect partnership between you and the surgeon. The above instructions are for your safety and ensuring a great result.  If you are unable to comply with any of the above, please inform the clinic so that your surgery is postponed or delayed.  Your adherence will go a long way in creating a magical transformation.
